REVENANT WINS AT FANTASTIC FEST AND WE GOT SOME GREAT REVIEWS!

THE REVENANT WON AT FANTASTIC FEST!
--BEST DIRECTOR AND AUDIENCE AWARD --

First of all, to say FANTASTIC FEST was a blast would be an under-statement.

Festival directors, TIM & KARRIE LEAGUE, sure know how to show film-goers a good time.

HARRY KNOWLES started off our night with a great introduction at the screening.

We're so flattered he supports us and believes in THE REVENANT.

We received another great review from AIN'T IT COOL NEWS . . . you ROCK Quint!

Check it out BELOW . . .

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AT OUR NEXT FESTIVAL SCREENING!

AIN'T IT COOL NEWS REVIEW:

Fantastic Fest's undead buddy dramedy THE REVENANT has a fan in Quint! Ahoy, squirts! Quint here reporting on more Fantastic Fest goodies!

Harry was loudly singing the praises of an unknown film from a new set of filmmakers that debuted at CineVegas called THE REVENANT. He loved that film so much he pressed Tim League and the Alamo’s crack team of Fantastic Fest programmers to consider it for Fantastic Fest.

And I gotta say the big man isn’t wrong. This flick is the real deal, a well-made undead bromance comedy/drama. Yes, I realize that me using the term “bromance” completely discredits everything I have to say about anything ever, but it’s an accurate word.

THE REVENANT is about a soldier who returns from Iraq in a coffin. His loser best friend and super hot girlfriend mourn him, but they don’t have to mourn him for long. The dude wakes up, but it’s not a premature burial. He was fully embalmed and autopsied… he’s dead, dead, dead.

Or rather undead. But he’s himself. Just dead. The big question is what is he? Is he a zombie? Not really… he still has personality. Is he a vampire? Maybe closer to that, but the image of a vampireisn’t of a being with rotting flesh.

That’s the fun of the film. Writer/director Kerry Prior creates his own mythology and populates the story with real, funny characters.

I love that the movie has a big turning point about halfway through and goes into an almost undead Robocop territory.

The tone is odd and will either be what makes the film for you or turns you off of it completely. It’s a dark movie, but also a really funny comedy. There’s a ton of gore. Some of it is fun andcartoony, some of it is graphic and real.

I guess it depends if you find that inconsistent or if you believe Prior is using these tonal shifts to keep you on your toes and involved in the story. I mean, life can alternate radically from hour to hour in any given day, so why not a movie? I’ve never really been bothered by stuff like that in films as long as it serves the narrative.

Prior also lucked out casting David Anders (Adam Monroe on HEROES) as the undead soldier and Chris Wylde as the Ed to Anders’ Shaun. Their friendship is the heart of the movie and the aspect of the flick that works so well that it separatesREVENANT from 98% of the crappy DTV schlockfest indies that are produced every year.

The gore helps, too. There’s some extremely well executed limb removals and talking decapitated heads in here. There’s also a character who, at one point, doesn ’t have eyelids anymore and fuck me is the effect disturbing. I was surprised at the quality of what was obviously a digital or at the very least digitally enhanced series of shots.

The filmmakers are still tweaking the movie, which is smart. At nearly 2 hours it is a little long, but I couldn’t tell them what to lose. Some of the character moments between Anders and Wylde that don’t propel the movie forward plot-wise are my favorite things in the movie.

My advice would be to concentrate on those two. Their relationship has to work for this movie to work, so the balance between plot-intensive scenes and character development scenes should be tilted more in the favor of the latter. At least that’s what I feel.

Also, I’d get rid of most of those ugly, ugly digital lens flares that happen toward the end of the film. Please and thank you.

THE REVENANT is still looking for an American distributor. I can’t imagine a Magnolia or at least an Anchor Bay wanting this flick to put out in a limited release. It’s good enough to play theaters andshouldn’t be sent to direct to video jail.

I think we’re going to see a lot from Mr. Prior in the coming years. He did so much with very little in this film without losing the ability to paint an entertaining picture or sacrificing production value.

Really fun, really gory, really off-kilter undead buddy flick. See it!

UPCOMING FESTIVALS... and Toronto AFTER DARK was a BLAST!

TORONTO PREMIERE WAS A SUCCESS!

First off, THE REVENANT won the Silver award for best Independent feature at the Toronto After Dark film festival. We were ecstatic when we saw that the admission line went all the way around the block! Fans waited in the most outrageous and AWESOME zombie attire I’ve ever seen. How did I not know that Toronto has this insanely huge Horror fan base? The screening went great and we were flattered by some impressive reviews we received. You should check out the links below.

By the way, if you haven’t made it to Toronto After Dark yet, you’re MISSING OUT! The festival was so much fun and planned to perfection. Thank you to the festival director Adam Lopez who is so passionate about the films he believes in that he programmed the best films. Another must see he played was DEAD SNOW. We were scheduled with after DEAD SNOW, as a double feature. They were a tough act to follow.

SOME EXCITING FESTIVALS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS . . .

THE REVENANT will be screening at the Alamo Draft House in Austin for FANTASTIC FEST. Our screening will be on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26th @ MIDNIGHT, and on THURSDAY OCTOBER 1st at 7:00pm.

The director will be attending and you can catch him after the screening for a Q & A.

We will also be screening in October at SITGES FILM FESTIVAL in Spain, CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL and SCREAM FEST IN L.A. Screening times will be posted some time soon.

Revenant Screening At Toronto After Dark.

While its been a while since we've updated the blogs, we've still been hard at work on The Revenant, showing our latest screening at Toronto After Dark Film Festival, in Toronto, Canada!

The festival runs from August 14-21, and our film will be screening Sunday, August 16, at 9:30 P.M. at the Bloor Cinema.

Tickets are $12, but as a part of "Zombie Appreciation Night", those dressed as one of the glorious undead will get half price off (or a mere $6, to save you the math).

The film is co-presented by our friends of the Toronto Zombie Walk.

We apologize for the last minute announcement, but we've been very busy with working on this particular print of the film, so we hope that you'll be pleased with the results.

See you in Toronto this weekend!

The Revenant Wins An Award At CineVegas!

We apologize for the lack of updates the last few days. We're taking a little behind-the-scenes downtime to figure out what direction to go to now that CineVegas is over.

We did win an award, however. We won the "Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature", which means that you guys love us. And we're appreciative for that. Both screenings turned out to be a lot of fun for everyone involved, and it's been enjoying a lot of great feedback (and just catching our breath after such a busy month).

We'll be back to our regular updates next week, but thanks again for all of your great support. We'll have all new things for you to check out (including some website changes), so we'll keep you posted!

Harry Knowles Sees The Revenant.

Last night was our second screening of The Revenant, which was another extremely full theater. As the line formed for the second screening, we noticed Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool News was lining up for the film as well, which was really exciting, considering how prolific a film reviewer he is.

Well, Harry has posted his review, and as the title reads, he was "blown away".

It may have been our second screening, but it was no less as busy or exciting. Thanks again to everyone for checking out our film over the last few days, and know without a doubt you'll be be seeing us in theaters again very, very soon.

Las Vegas Weekly Interview.

Here is Kerry's Las Vegas Weekly interview, published this week.

We will also be posting the KUNV "Arts Alive" interview with Kerry shortly.

Kerry will also be having some new interviews pending in the next week, so be on the lookout for those.

- The Revenant

Post CineVegas.

There is a bigger story to tell, of course, but it's been an extremely busy time for the team during the last few weeks, and we're taking more of a relaxed day today.

The premiere went over very well last night. From the undead walking the Palms last night, to a red carpet walk with Kerry and Sarah, David Anders, Chris Wylde, Louise Griffiths, Jacy King, Zana Zefi, Senyo Amoaku, Wally White, and all the other wonderful cast and crew of The Revenant, to passing out "Flarp" to our wild, noise-making audience, the film was sold out and the theater was packed.

The after-party was just as fun, with the infamous '79 Camaro pulled up in front of the Palms Place, dancing, socializing, photo ops, and an overall great time that lasted well into sunup (when all good revenants finally had to go to sleep). The Las Vegas Weekly article was also published, which chronicled our "power outage" adventures from last week. If you can, grab a copy this week. It's a fun read.

We'll be posting pictures soon (as well as some overdue pictures that we have from previous events), so keep checking with us, and thank you to everyone who has shown their continued support through all of this. We are here now because of you.

Back Again and Moving Forward.

Our power outage lasted only a few hours yesterday, which wasn't great by any means, but on the bright side, it was only part of the day. With things back to normal (or for what passes as that around here this week), we're rapidly nearing our deadline for CineVegas submission.

In the meantime, Kerry has been busy as always, taking part in an interview for Las Vegas Weekly, and putting the final touches on the film alongside the rest of the team. At this stage, the team is just getting everything ready for submission, and spreading the word as much as possible online and through our promotional materials.

Keep checking back with us this next week. We'll have a lot of new information to post in regards to our CineVegas screening and party schedule.

Power Outage.

It's not been a normal day for the team. We're having a power outage. so we're trying to get generators to get everything back up and running. Of course this has to happen the day before our submission date to CineVegas.

This should be interesting.....

Countdown To CineVegas.

The Revenant team keeps busier than ever with the impending submission date for CineVegas.

It's been a lot of long nights, full schedules, are more running than ever to make sure that extra bit of polish is added for our CineVegas world premiere. Everything has to be done by the end of this week.

As a reminder, those who are wanting to keep up on all of our own related CineVegas information, here is our ticket and hotel information, as well as our official screen times.

Also, keep checking our official website for our trailer, fan quotes, the latest interviews and other updated information.

Also, CineVegas has posted a new interview with Kerry, so be sure to check it out.

For those who are still confused as to what kind of creature a revenant actually is (Zombie? Vampire? Both?), here's an interesting article on the subject.

There will be a lot more information posted soon, so keep checking this space.

Interviews and Reviews.

KUNV, the radio station of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will be airing an interview with Kerry Prior regarding The Revenant on June 8, 2009. Kerry did the interview this last Friday, and it will be airing just in time for CineVegas, so be sure to tune in and check it out! Once we get a copy of the interview, we'll be posting it to the main site as well.

Also of note, the horror website, Dread Central, gave The Revenant's screening from Zompire a glowing review with a "5 out of 5" bloody knives. It's a great review, and well worth the read.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

For starters, we are now found on Wikipedia with our own entry. The entry provides a little more information on the characters and technical aspects of the film, so check it out.

In order to make our various sites more uniform, we've introduced a new front-end for our MySpace profile.

We'll be updating important info. regarding Zompire and CineVegas here as we get closer to screening time. That's also going to mean more things like poster art, trailers, etc. to keep people informed about The Revenant.

The production team is still working hard to perfect the audio and special FX for our next screenings, so for those who attended Xanadu, we'll have an even cleaner print to show off at our next screenings.

The Revenant Wins "Best Feature Film 2009" At Xanadu!

"Joey's going to Vegas!"

For those who attended Xanadu Las Vegas this year may have seen a little film titled The Revenant place 1st in the "Best Feature Film 2009" during the closing ceremonies yesterday afternoon. Kerry Prior accepted the award as fans of the film and members of The Revenant team enthusiastically cheered the Director/Writer/Producer on. It's our first award, and we certainly don't aim to make it our only one!

The rest of the convention went well, with a Friday night premiere of the film in the "Pleasure Dome" room. Fans had a chance to chat with Chris Wylde before the show, handing out free autographed shirts and 8X10 photos. He was later joined by David Anders and the rest of The Revenant crew to attend the screening, which was met to a lot of enthusiastic fan response. We hope you got your photo op or autograph of the guys during the show!

It wasn't long before the rest of the show slowly became a sea of Bart and Joey heads on their T-Shirts as our merchandise swept through the crowd like a revenant infection of its own. Plenty of new fans and friends to talk to, and of course, our great award made the convention an experience to remember.

We'd like to thank Scott Anderson for allowing us to take part in his convention, Chris and David for their appearance and participation, our booth neighbor Nic Brown for being an all-around cool guy alongside Tucky Williams, the panel judges, and of course, you, our fans, for being such an important part of everything we do here. Hearing you guys cheer for our film, laugh during the funny parts, and gasp during the gross parts is an award in itself.

Revenant Production Update.

With Xanadu coming up so quickly, the production is hard at work getting ready for the show. It's the usual show preparation: Getting the booth set up, press kits, freebies for the fans (yes, we're working on getting free swag ready for you guys), and David and Chris are still ready to make an appearance, sign autographs, and be rock stars in general.

The Revenant is set to show at Xanadu on Friday, April 17 at 11 P.M. - so keep your schedules open.

Production is still going steadily, and we get closer and closer to completion, with a few more small scenes being filmed, getting the soundtrack in place, and general edits and FX work. The cut shown at Xanadu will still be a "Work In Progress" cut. While the version shown will definitely be a viewable version e are continuing to work on polishing up the film and showing that work at future festivals.

We'll have some new artwork to show and another website revision to show off very soon. Thanks for sticking with us, and for your continued support.

UPDATE: David Anders and Chris Wylde Attending Xanadu Las Vegas.

In the most recent and up to date news, we are now pleased to announce that David Anders (Bart) and Chris Wylde (Joey) will be attending Xanadu Las Vegas to meet fans and sign autographs.

Further details, times and dates will be forthcoming, but we wanted to get this big news out there for fans wanting to meet the stars of The Revenant.

Keep checking back to our blogs, networking sites, and main site for more details.

The New Website and More.

We've been hard at work over here, and are pleased to announce the latest version of our official site. We've now broken the site into sections, released more technical info on the film, and even provided one of Joey's recipes bound to cure even the most heinous of hangovers.

You'll actually see this culinary concoction make its cinematic debut in the film in all of its sobriety inducing glory. We have to ask: Have any of you tried making this yet? If there's enough interest or creative enough attempts to create this meal (feel free to send us a video), we may have some fun with this down the line and offer a little something to one of the most creative presentation (Bonus points to those who go the "express" route and toss this one in the blender). So what are you waiting for? Get cooking!

We've also been keeping pretty busy on the film festival front. There's our Xanadu page, so you can get all of our information there for the festival. We are going to be part of another BIG film festival, but we can't talk about that yet. You'll just have to wait for the official announcement.

Please drop us a line to let us know how the new site is working for you, and as always, we look forward to hearing from our fans.

Behind The Scenes.

It's been a busy past week for the Revenant production team.

While we didn't update the video/photo journals last week, we have been hard at work updating the website. We plan to be launching the new site this week with new sections, information, photos and more.

Kerry also got a new interview from our friends over at Horror Yearbook. Check it out to see more behind both Kerry's work as well as the film.

The film is really starting to come together thanks to the power of editing and completed special effects. The film has been getting a lot of positive feedback as of its last pre-screening. For those interested in seeing how the film is coming along, and are in the Las Vegas area from April 17-19, we'll be showing an early premiere of the film at Xanadu Las Vegas on Saturday, April 18. As an extra treat, Chris Wylde (Joey) will tentatively be in attendance at the event on Friday, April 19. As we got closer to the date, we'll post the times for everything.

Things will only start to get busier from here, so check back with us, and we'll let you know once the revised site goes "live".

The First Video Update.

We're a little late this week posting up new images, but as the internet was running slow yesterday, it pushed a few things to the next day.

We are doing something new this week. Instead of posting new images, we're posting a "Behind the Scenes" video showing off some of the green screen work for the movie. While we're definitely not going to spoil the entire story for you, it does give an idea that something's going down.

We'll be posting new videos in the near future, and of course, we'll still have new behind the scenes images to show, so keep checking back with us!

Arrow In The Head Covers The Revenant.

It seems that we're getting out there. We discoveredthis article from a fanzine titledArrow in the Head. It's a cool little positive blurb, and we're glad to see fan enthusiasm growing for the film.

In more "close to home" news, Kerry tagged himself in a snowboarding accident a week or two back. While he's fine and still hard at work on post-production and doing some interviews, his leg did have to get stitches, and it's something of a gnarly cut. Who knows? Maybe we'll share a pic or two of Kerry's leg that would make even the most full-stomached revenant a little hungry.

Keep spreading the news about the film, and thanks again to everyone who has written us with a lot of great support.

New Photos And Updates.

We've gotten this week's pictures up for our friends and fans to look through. We didn't post as many this time as we are preparing some exclusives for some interviews we have in the works, but we have a few behind the scenes pics to enjoy.

The usual haunts: Facebook, MySpace and Zombie Friends pages.

Keep in mind that these are all basically "behind the scenes" photos. Many of these pictures do not have the full color correction, FX work, microphones are in some scenes, well, you get the picture. We're still working!

We are proud of the cast and crew who contributed to the film, and we wanted to share that story. As for the finished pictures, keep an eye out for the interviews coming soon (but there are a few on Horroryearbook.Com), and when the film is completed.

We also have an ad banner floating around on Zombie Friends, so check it out next time you're browsing the legions of the undead.

We're getting out there, so feel free to check out the article.

We'll also be posting some new pictures this week of more behind the scenes happenings, so keep checking back with us in the next day or so.

New Plot Synopsis and Photos.

As usual, we have new photos up on the Facebook, MySpace and Zombie Friends pages. There are some good photos on there, so be sure to check them out!

Also, we have posted a synopsis of the film to give our fans a better idea of what to expect from the story:

"The only thing worse than having your best friend die....

Is having him come back."

The Revenant is a story about an ancient pestilence recurring to infect modern society.

In what was supposed to be a standard military drive through the desert, Officer First Class Bart Gregory finds himself killed in Middle East during a rescue attempt gone wrong. Although his body is returned to the United States, and his body is laid to a peaceful rest, Bart finds that his afterlife is anything but. But before the lid can be put on his tomb, Bart inexplicably awakens, confused, horrified-- a moldy, putrefying living corpse - A Revenant.

Bart desperately enlists the help of his best friend, Joey Leubner, in an attempt to ease Bart's newfound nausea and agony. When a panicked emergency room forces the confused corpse to flee, the two friends discover that there is only one cure for Bart's condition: Human blood.

Bart and Joey take matters into their own hands to keep Bart from decomposing, becoming "The Vigilante Gun-Slingers" in the process. The two anti-heroes sate both Bart's bloody urges to feed upon the living, and exact vengeance upon the criminal element to protect the innocent. However, it is only a matter of time before things begin to spiral out of control during their macabre crusade, and Bart will learn that he must eventually embrace the path of his own horrific destiny... all while cruising in a 1979 Camaro with a surfboard on the roof.

The Revenant is a horror/dark comedy film set to release in the Fall of 2009. The film stars David Anders, Chris Wylde, Louise Griffiths, and Jacy King.

Directed by Kerry Prior.

The production crew is still working hard on editing and SFX shots, and we're busy trying to get the word out on The Revenant. Keep checking back for more updates, as we have some big things in the works to share in the near future.

First Post For The New Blog.

Welcome to the first official post of the new and improved blog for The Revenant. There was an older "official" blog floating around the internet, but we decided to update with all of the new information here.

So what is new for long-time Revenant fans? We have done a substantial update to the official site this past week. There is new information on the actors, some articles, links to all of our networking sites, and a few graphic updates here and there. There will be even more updates coming soon, and a better design interface, but we wanted to get all of the new information out there is an easy to follow format until our updated site arises from the grave to feed hungry fans with new and bloody information.

The film itself is currently in post-production. In other words, they are still fixing up all the shots, adding in special effects, and all of that other exciting film stuff. Actually shooting a movie is only about half the work. There's a whole new challenge in actually making it into the finished product you see on screen. We did an internal screening this week to check the proress, and there is plenty of guts, guns, gore, and dark humor abound.

As for our fans, both new and old, we want to hear what you think, and what you would like to see from our growing network. We're eager to get involved with the fans of the horror and undead community, so don't be shy, or let a mouth sewn shut stop you from speaking up to us. We've also joined Zombie Friends this past week, so feel free to friend us there, in addition to our MySpace and Facebook profiles.

That's all for this update, but keep checking back with us. The Revenant is set to release in Fall of 2009, so we'll continue to update more as that time comes.
